Winter tires are designed for cold weather. Once temperatures are consistently warmer, they can wear faster and feel softer on the road.
The 7°C rule
A common guideline is to switch once temperatures are consistently above about 7°C. That is when all-season or summer tires usually start to make more sense.
Why not run winters all summer?
Winter tire rubber is softer. In warm weather it can wear more quickly, reduce handling feel and sometimes increase stopping distance compared with the right seasonal tire.
Use the switch as an inspection opportunity
When changing tires, it is a good time to inspect tread depth, uneven wear, brakes, suspension and visible leaks.
Check tire pressure after the swap
Temperature changes affect tire pressure. Proper pressure improves tire life, fuel economy and handling.
