Oil Change

Here at Rankins Automotive we use high quality oils such as Total and liqui Moly. We service a wide variety of Vehicles such as Domestic, European and Asian.

Every person who drives a car needs to understand proper car maintenance. One of the best things that you can do for your car is to get a regular oil and filter change. Our recommendation is to change Non-synthetic oil every 5,000 km or every 3 months and Synthetic oil 10,000 km or 6 months, depending on which event occurs first.
However, this recommendation is usually about half of what most car manufacturers recommend and in reality a very conservative estimate to take into account some of the worst driving conditions and motor oils. When Vehicles are driven at extended Kilometers past recommended distance you can encounter engine sludge and your engine not being lubricated properly, which can lead to engine noises and even permanent engine damage.

Engine oil consists of large chains of hydrocarbons that stay between the piston and piston walls to keep the two from directly rubbing against each other. However eventually the heat from the engine will begin to break down these chains, more and more, thus causing the oil to offer less protection against friction. If the chains break down enough, the engine parts will practically rub together.

The oil filter is actually one of the engine parts that are meant to help reduce the particulate contaminants that can eventually form sludge. These particles, however, do accumulate in the filter as well, and the more present, the less effective it is at filtering out new contaminants.
